New free air rates and tropical itineraries detailed

MIAMI (May 2, 2012) — Tall ship cruise line Star Clippers just released its Fall 2012 through Spring 2013 brochure highlighting its Caribbean and Costa Rica seasons, as well as two Panama Canal transits, for Royal Clipper, Star Clipper and Star Flyer. In addition to the itineraries, the 44-page brochure is filled with stunning photos, detailed maps, port descriptions and Costa Rica land tour options.

Since 1991 Star Clippers Ltd. has offered sophisticated travelers the ultimate cruising vacation alternative – a tall ship “mega-yacht” experience aboard authentic re-creations of the classic sailing clipper ships that ruled the waves during the 19th century.

The brainchild of Swedish entrepreneur, Mikael Krafft, Star Clippers operates three of the largest barquentine and full-rigged sailing ships in the world. Star Clipper, Star Flyer and flagship, Royal Clipper are a triumvirate of four and five-masted sailing ships that offer the activities, amenities and atmosphere of a private yacht at a price which is often less than one would pay on a large, mass-marketed cruise ship. When owner and President Mikael Krafft founded Star Clippers in 1989, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of reviving the golden age of tall ships for new generations of travellers and adventurers to enjoy.

Born in Stockholm, Sweden, Krafft grew up around the corner from one of the finest yacht builders in the world, the Plyms Shipyard. As a child he would ride over on his bicycle and spend a lot of his free time learning about mixing varnish and stain, the construction of wooden ships, and the history of sailing.

Meticulously researched down to the last detail, Star Flyer and Star Clipper entered service in the early 1990s as the tallest clipper ships ever built, with main masts rising 226 feet and a maximum sailing speed of 17 knots. In July 2000, the twin sister-ships were joined by Royal Clipper, the line’s flagship and the first fully rigged square-rigger with five masts built since Preussen in l902.

MIAMI - Baltic cruise itineraries make their debut on Star Clippers’ roster in summer 2012 with the positioning of Star Flyer in the northern European region from May through August. Ranging from three-night samplers to 11-night explorations, a variety of itineraries to some of the Baltic’s most popular capital cities as well as several smaller, more intimate ports of call are featured on the 170-guest tall ship.

MIAMI - Star Clippers has opened the books and is taking reservations on its summer 2011 through spring 2012 sailings aboard Royal Clipper, Star Clipper and Star Flyer.

The line recently unveiled the itineraries for its new Mediterranean sailings in summer 2011 that introduce 10 maiden ports and take the ships to Greece and Turkey as well as the western Med. Come fall, Royal Clipper and Star Clipper return to the Caribbean and Star Flyer heads back to Costa Rica.
